Anybody having a question, he always wanted to ask an Emirati, but thought it might not be right to do so, should mark the coming Thursday, 29th of September, in this calendar:
This will be the day to ask Ali!
Ali Al Saloom, better known under his brand-name “Ask Ali”, will be holding a book signing session at 6:30 pm in Jashanmal book-store in the Abu Dhabi Mall.
The long time columnist and intercultural expert has been running the internet-portal “Ask-Ali.com” for 7 years, answering questions about the country’s culture and heritage. Furthermore, he assists newcomers to the region to better understand and appreciate the Arabian Peninsula, its people and lifestyle.
Ali’s cultural mini-guides about Abu Dhabi and Dubai introduce the UAE from an Emirati perspective, sharing insider-tips and helping readers not only to find their way around town, but to know more about Emiratis. The “Ask Ali” guide books give readers a unique insight to the real Emirati way of life. (moe)

The Gulf Scrabble Championships are coming to Dubai for the first time ever and we're the key sponsor!

Given that it's all about being inventive with words, Scrabble is a natural fit for book lovers.
For those of you unfamiliar with it, Scrabble is a word game in which two to four players gain points by putting together words from individually lettered tiles on a board marked with a 15 tile x 15 tile grid on which there are special positions through which players can gain extra points. The Championships bring together Scrabble players from all over the Gulf who compete fiercely over the course of two days to eventually crown the Gulf Scrabble Champion for 2011 who, along with runners up and other skilled players will win prizes from Jashanmalbooks.com!
They take place on the 24th and 25th of June starting at 8am each day at the Etisalat Academy (map below).

Art Dubai Pop-Up Store
It's a busy week for us as we've also back at Art Dubai with a pop-up store that features a great range of wonderful art, design, photography and architecture books and magazines from around the world.
Art Dubai runs from the 16th to 19th of March.
We'll also stock copies of any books launched at the fair.
We're located just outside the main hall and look forward to seeing you there!

We're at the Abu Dhabi International Bookfair
We're back at the Abu Dhabi International Bookfair this year with 3 stands in different areas of the exhibition hall:
- Our main stand located in Hall 12 Stand M40: this is next to the KITAB Book Signing Corner where authors have their book signing sessions and, as always, we've got books from all the authors who will be at the fair. The up-to-date version of the Cultural Programme can be downloaded here (DOC). This year we've partnered with the wonderful art/design/photography/architecture publisher TASCHEN to showcase some of their latest & greatest books.
- Show Kitchen: like what you see during the live cooking demonstrations? We've got books written by many of the chefs who will be showing off their skills. You can download the Show Kitchen Programme here (PDF).
- e-Zone: We're working with Sony to demonstrate their latest e-readers in the new e-Zone area. We're actively looking for regional content partners to provide e-books for distribution, especially in the academic & techincal fields so please either contact us or visit us in the e-Zone or at out main stand.

Hithaa Al Eid Book Launch
Jashanmal Books & Kalimat invite you to come along with your children to be our special guests in celebrating the spirit of Ramadan and Eid at the launch of "Hithaa Al Eid" by award winning author Fatima Sharafeddine at Jashanmal Bookstores in Sahara Centre on Monday, 6th September at 8:30pm.

To celebrate the launch of The Power, Rhonda Byrne's follow up to her international bestseller The Secret we gave away 300 copies of the book to customers at our Mall of the Emirates, Abu Dhabi Mall and Sahara Centre bookstores and also gave away another 100 copies to customers who registered online in advance.
